Removing barriers to University education
When considering your child’s further education, here are some simple facts: unemployment in South Africa is at 32.6%, youth unemployment in South Africa is at 63.3%, only 18% of matriculants can be accommodated at an SA university and of those 18%, nearly 47% drop out.
In the international job market, they will also face the challenges of increased automation and be at risk of technological unemployment if they don’t think bigger and go further than a local education. The following research findings from the American Research Institute, Brookings and others highlight these challenges.
- One in four jobs in the United States will face a high risk of automation job displacement by 2030. (Brookings)
- The youngest workers (aged 16 to 24) face the highest average risk of automation exposure (49%) in the United States. (Brookings)
- By 2030, 44% of low education workers will be at risk of technological unemployment. (PwC)
- Nearly 70% of workers believe automation will bring opportunities to qualify for higher skilled work. (International Federation of Robotics)
